"FRED
ROWE's MERC"
Fred
Rowe's '51 convertible was another one of those customs which
was modified as styles changed. The car appeared on the cover
of the August O53 edition of Rod & Custom. Then in 1955 it appeared
in the Universal picture "Running Wild". A mild but
clean custom convertible painted Burgundy Mist. The windshield
was chopped 4 inches and fitted with a one piece top by Carson.
A tarpaulin was used to cover the rear seats when the top was
removed. The headlights were frenched '52 Ford units. The car
was lowered and we shaved and peaked the hood and put a small
radius on its corners. The handles were also removed. The operating
button was installed in the chrome rub strip which we accented
with more chrome trim running along the bottom of the car. The
ends of the grille bar are stock, but retained the parking lights,
but the center section we rolled from sheet metal and fitted
with teeth.
